Sports massage and remedial is a set of techniques used to relieve muscle tension and improve musculoskeletal functionality. So, in other words, it tries to get that sore muscle group to behave itself and hurt less and in consequence allow you to move the related part of your body more easily. Restoring flexibility and efficiency of your muscles can also have a beneficial effect on your joint health.
While sports and remedial massage is intended to release muscle tension in an efficient way and therefore can at times be quite uncomfortable, it is up to you to control the level of discomfort you are happy to tolerate. I believe that this kind of massage is meant to make you feel better after the treatment, not during it, and yet, only you can know what the right amount of pressure is for you at the moment of the treatment.
Almost all of my clients wear whatever they are wearing to suit the other aspects of their day, as there is no need to wear anything specific for this treatment. You will be asked to take "everything off except underwear" and your body will be covered with a fresh towel for the duration of the treatment except for the part that is being worked on, e.g. leg, neck, back.
Try to be well hydrated (but not so much that you have to jump off the couch in the middle of the treatment and run to the toilet) before and after. Furthermore, try not to schedule an extreme workout directly before or after the treatment. Expect to get the maximum benefit about two days later, even though an immediate relief and increase in mobility also is quite common.
Do you have any questions or concerns about whether this is the right treatment for you or do you need advice on what would be the best treatment duration?
Please fill out this short form and I will be in touch shortly. New clients often get in touch before they make their first booking, for example regarding the best treatment duration for their specific issue.
